Interviews with Sinovision TV
Sinovision’s English channel came over to the studio for an interview for a couple video segments to talk about work, the career, my process and the experience as an Asian American making it in the field of illustration. Reporter Yi Xie and Producer Jingyu Shi did a wonderful job of helping me to relax and made it a fun experience. Much thanks to Yi and Jingyu for the wonderful experience and making me look good.
Iammama: The Box Story
Another story for iammama.com about imagination. Things you can do with a box. I miss the days when an empty box was a good day of fun.
The Great British Bake Off
I am a huge fan of the Great British Bake Off and AD Bambi Nicklen knew this when she called with an assignment for Stanford Alumni Magazine. She had a column about the show as a much needed oasis of niceness and civility during our very turbulent times. I’ve joked many times I just need to see people being nice to each other for an hour. The idea of a couple settling down while playing off the introduction to the show is exactly how I feel when it’s time for another Great British Bake Off.
Wall St Journal: Is Pay Transparency a good idea?
Illustration for Wall St Journal for a column about the wisdom of pay transparency in the workplace. Art Directors Orlie Kraus, Sheryl Dermawan and I have worked together for many years and finally met this year. Now it’s even a better day whenever they call for an assignment.
The Problem with Atticus Finch
Illustration for Rider University Magazine for an essay discussing Atticus Finch who is a hero in Harper Lee’s “To Kill a Mockingbird” but a neurotic white supremacist in her sequel, “Go Set a Watchman”. The essay made an argument that we should not abandon Atticus Finch but accept a unified version of him with his virtues and flaws. Sometimes the most obvious solution is the best and the metaphor of wings vs horns was a perfect fit for a complex character. Much thanks to AD Richard Losavio for a thought provoking project.
Iammama.com: Friends
Another new story for Iammama.comĀ about friendship. Caterpillars seemed like a perfect metaphor. Enjoy.
Bus! Stop! Coming March 2018
This is very exciting news. Bus! Stop! is my new childrens book for Viking Publishing and will be released in March 2018. It’s a story about a boy who misses his bus. While waiting for his bus, everything but his bus arrives. Editor Tracy Gates and Art Director Jim Hoover have been a dream team. I’ll talk about it more in the future but suffice to say this might be the best thing I’ve ever done.
